I decided to dive into the world of looking at talent. In Madden years past people have desperately looked for cornerbacks, overpaid for defensive backs and consistently moved into top ten in drafts to get the top corners. Those same years saw second round talent at the cornerback position scarce and it was a truly coveted position. Nobody would be dealing corners and the value would be higher than ever... so it begs the question, why is noone jumping on guys like Lethal is dangling (Talib) or a young Superstar development CB like Justin Bethel that I have put onto the trade block.... Lets dig a little deeper
**averages of the top two cornerbacks for each team in each attribute**
Drumroll....
YOUR DWHO AVERAGE AFC Cornerback:
YOUR DWHO AVERAGE NFC Cornerback
So the coverage skills for the teams in this league are right now sitting at 89 man coverage, and 88 zone coverage.... yikes those seem a bit high! So... who is the average player described in each conference to look at for comparison purpose
AFC: CB Brandon Carr
NFC: CB Brandon McGee
Those guys do not look like the middle of the pack to me, do they to you?
Who are the statistical outliers?
FIRST STOP MINNESOTA for the WTF moment:
The defensive back coach may want to think about providing Vikings starting cornerback duo with the playbook. It seems like they have failed to do some homework and are not exactly "students of the game." Rhodes and Robinson come it at a whopping 74 and 61 awareness, with a playrecognition of 47 and 65. I cannot even make these numbers up. Think about the averages being so high even with numbers like this in the statistics... then scratch your head.
The best duo is debatable, as there are so many dominant one, two punches, but as I look around the numbers... the best bang for my buck with mentions to the Colts, Redskins, Saints, and several other teams is the duo in Houston...Joseph and Jackson...
What it means? I have no idea, but I do know it means that cornerbacks are a dime a dozen, and this does not even take into account teams that have a stable of guys just like this... want an example look into New England to see what I am talking about:
The grouping of Talib, Smith, Campbell, Dennard, Rowling, Lewis and Decatur boast these attributes, and that is after trading other pieces such as Logan Ryan who currently is starting for Buffalo....
It seems long gone are the days where DRC is the most coveted Madden player... everyone is Revis now
