State of the Franchise: Oakland Raiders

State of the Franchise: Raiders

Passing Leader: Philip Rivers 780 yards 6 TDs 4 ints – In Rivers this team knows what they are going to get. And they are getting what they paid for. He is not the great QB that the franchise needs but he is an upgrade over last season’s QB debacle.

Rushing Leader: Adrian Peterson 418 yards 2 TDs 4.4 yard avg. – Peterson has been a let down as of the start of the season. The team gave up a lot for him and pay’s him $12 mil this year. All involved expect more from him; coach, GM, media, fans and even himself.

Receiving Leader: Michael Crabtree 414 yards 24 catches 4 TDs – Crabtree is a monstAr. He can do no wrong. By far the best FA or trade of the offseason for this team. He catches everything thrown in his direction. He has saved the Raiders twice already in this young season. Bad play calling is the only thing in his way of an All-Pro season.

Tackle Leader: Tyvon Branch 20 Tackles 3 ints – Branch has been consistant. After the team drafted 2 SS (Hicks & Greer) and trading for a FS (Joyner) many thought he would be the odd man out. Not so fast my friends (Lee Corso voice) , Branch is still the defensive captain and will be for a very long time.

Sack Leader: Cameron Wake 9 sacks 13 tackles – Most teams have decided not to run his way which means he has a low number of tackles. But there is no running when you drop back and pass. He has been all that he was before his injury last season in Miami.

Interceptions Leader: Khalil Mack 3 ints 19 tackles 1 sack – Mack has benefited from his high number of snap counts. But in only his 2nd year the coaches need to give him more reps rushing the passer. We like the Ints but he should have more sacks. Could a 3-4 scheme be in the future for the Raiders?

The Glue: Henry Ballard – No guts, no glory. Nothing shows up in the stat line but his blocking has provided running lanes for AP and Protection for Rivers. He has not allowed a sack this season.

The Future: The future is bright for the Raiders. Not all the players will remain with the team after the season is over (cough, cough AP & Rivers), so they understand the urgency that is before them. But a playoff appearance is all that this team needs to satisfy the owner and the fans.
