Week 2 - Old Friends Means New Enemies

Post by no1xdraftpck on Sat May 25, 2013 8:27 pm

Welcome back Saints fans! In this weeks episode we recap game 1 vs the Giants, talk about week 2, and look forward to week 3.

Last Week Results:

Giants - 37 Saints - 34

The Saints late game rally comes up short once again. It was a back and forth game, very exciting to watch. The Saints were able to continue their success through the air as they amassed 416 yards. QB - E.Pongi finished 17/35 with 452 yards 4 TD's and 3 INT's. He added 6 yards on the ground on a designed qb run. Pongi's new weapon in CJjr had a great debut in a losing effort, finishing with 6 receptions 162 yards and 1 TD. He had a team high 6 catches and made the most of his opportunities. Patrick Peterson was the primary CB assigned to Calvin, and although the stats look like CJ had the advantage, it was PP who challenged CJjr for a jump ball and came away as the winner.

The Saints were able to move the ball well each drive but came up short on a couple instances. They settled for fg's when they should have finished with 6 at least 2 times. It was a great 3rd quarter surge from the Giants that ultimately pushed this game out of reach. WR's Julio Jones and Victor Cruz both had monster games, Cruz finishing with 3 TD's. The Giants just have the Saints number and it seems like coach Ross will have to come up with another gameplan if he wants to be victorious against the G-men.

Next up for the Saints are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, division rival and former TE - Jimmy Graham's new team.

Week 2

Saints - 51 @ Buccaneers - 31

The NFL seems to know how to set up must watch tv and thats what they did when they scheduled the Saints and Buccaneers to face off against eachother week 2. usually the fact these two teams are division foes should be headlines enough, but these two teams were involved in a huge off-season deal that saw superstar TE - J.Graham move from N.O to Tampa. Eventually the Saints landed WR - C.Johnson Jr. with pieces of the trade made with the Buccaneers.

However, going into this game both coaches knew it wouldnt be like there usual match-up as Tampa's coach would not be able to attend the game due to personal reasons. The assistant coach of the Buccs were up to a challenging tasks as the Saints came into the game hungry for a W. QB - Pongi had one of his best games of his career. He finished with an impressive 22/25 464 yards 6 TD's and 1 INT.He also gained 12 yards and 1 TD on the ground utilizing their wildcat scheme. WR - C.Johnson Jr. seems to be settling into this offense just fine as he got his consecutive 6 reception 100+ yard game.

Battle of the TE's: Both TE's swapped jerseys during the off-season and this was their 1st time facing off.

Tampa - TE - J.Graham - 3 rec 63 yards

Saints - TE - N.Paul - 4 rec 122 yards 2 TD's

Next weeks game: Saints Vs. Panthers
